Week 1 - The journey here

Updated: Aug 19, 2020

My name is Desislava (Desi) and I was born in 1991 in Sofia, Bulgaria. I lived there my whole life until I moved to Norway in 2013. I have been interested in art as long as I can remember, I loved drawing as a kid and taking photos with my parents' old camera. I tend to think of myself as a very creative person, I like to think outside the box and look trough other people's perspective. My favorite subjects in school were Biology, Art and English. Other than the classes in school, I had private lessons in painting with one of the school teachers (she was my neighbor too), mainly in oil painting of still life objects. Unfortunately, we stopped having art classes in school, and I had to concentrate on my other subjects instead, so I left the art world for awhile, until I rediscovered Photography shortly after I came to Norway. In 2015 I bought my first DSLR camera, and have been taking photos ever since. As a shy and unprofessional photographer, I couldn't start working with people (portrait, wedding and baby photography), so I stuck to taking mainly landscape, macro, and animal photos, but I am hopeful that in the future I can expand my skills and try new things. My goal is to find a way to use my photography skills for more than just a hobby, and use my photographs for more than just social media posts. I've been looking into schools for some time now, but didn't have the time with a full time job. Until a year ago, when I moved in with my boyfriend, and found a new job in the area. Now I work part-time at Kiwi Flå and have the time to start working on my dream. The village we live in is small as it is, and traveling to the big cities for school would have been hard, so I looked into online schools instead, and stumbled onto Noroff. I know it sounds cliché, but it felt like it was made for me. I could take part-time studies online in the subject I want, and in English (I have learned Norwegian trough lessons and practice, but I still find English a lot easier to understand). I am very excited for my future, and the opportunity to learn more.

Photo: I did a simple self portrait using Adobe Illustrator by tracing a photo I had, and filled in the colors and shades. I am new to the program and I have a lot to learn, but I did my best on this one.

I'd also like to share a quick and easy to read list of my progression plan and deadlines for my first year at Noroff.
