Which are your favorite eCommerce sites that you use regularly? Pick one to focus on for this Lesson Task. Think about the functional design and discuss why each of the following pages is effective:

  • Homepage

  • Category page

  • Product page

  • Cart

  • Checkout

Post your conclusion about the effectiveness of each of the five pages to your WordPress blog and share screenshots to support your writing.

Since I became a mom for the first time this year, there was a lot of baby furniture, clothes, and stuff that I needed to buy and the website I used the most was Jollyroom.no.

I am very happy with the website and the checkout process they have, so this will be the site I will look at for this task.

Homepage:

The homepage is clean and showcases a lot of their current discounts and offers.

The menu, search bar, and shopping bag are easy to locate on the top of the page. The header fades out when the page is scrolled down.

Each different offer/discount that is shown can be clicked or has a call to action button that leads to the products page.

At the end of the page, we can see a section that allows the viewer to subscribe to their newsletter.

Under that, we see a section designed to create trust with potential customers. This section contains icons that advertise good prices, free shipping over 1000 NOK 365 days open online store, fast delivery, a large amount of products choice, and that the site is the "North's biggest children's store"

Under that, we see a side scroll of the most recent comments and ratings made by customers.

The footer contains a site menu, another offer to subscribe to the newsletter,r and short info about the company.

The payment options they offer are displayed at the bottom as their social links.

Category page

The different product categories can be selected from the menu or additional page when clicked.

Menu:

Page:

At the top, they choose to filter through the products and find what they need as fast as possible. Under that, they show clickable images for "News" and the current season's most popular choices in this case for winter.

After that, they have sections that show bestsellers and the most popular brands.

In the end, we see information about the children's clothes.

If we pick a specific category we see short info with a filter and sorting option on top followed by a top products slide and a 5-column, 12-row grid of all products after.

When we click on the Filter button a filtering menu appears on the left side of the page.

And for the sorting option, a drop-down menu appears with the choices we can pick from.

For each product, we can see the name/short description, price, rating (if available), new/discount tag, and a like button and if the product is close to being sold out we see the amount currently available in stock.

In the end, we see how many pages we can go through and a button for the next/previous page.

At the very end, we have additional info about the category of products we are looking at.

Product page

On the product page, we have a lot of information about the chosen product the

On the left side, we have:

  1. A category map

  2. Pictures of the product which we can zoom

  3. A few items that other clients have purchased together with the one we are looking at

  4. Items related items might like

  5. List of last items seen

On the right:

  1. Name and brand of the product

  2. Rating and comments

  3. Like and share button

  4. Tag that shows that the product is available for a discount code

  5. Sizes

  6. Color options

  7. Current status of the product

  8. Price

  9. A large and easy-to-locate "Add to basket" button

  10. Discount code

  11. Detailed product description

  12. Product number

  13. Product specifications

  14. Price history graph

  15. Comments from customers

  16. Links that lead to all payment and delivery options

Cart

The cart list appears on the right side of the page when pressed.

We can see the name, price, and size of the item we have added.

The delete item icon is easy to see and select.

We can see how much we have until we can get free shipping, the shipping tax, and the total we need to pay.

Also, we see a big checkout button.

We can pick between 3 payment options.

Checkout

We are directed to the first page of the checkout process when we press the checkout button.

At the very top in the header area, we have a button we can press to continue shopping instead of checking out.

There we can see our product's picture, name, and size, and after adding the discount code - the adjusted price. We are easily able to change the quantity of the product with the "+" and "-" buttons on the right.

Under the discount code lane, we see a progress bar that shows how much we need until we get free shipping.

Under we see the calculation of the total amount we need to pay.

At the bottom of the page, we are again able to see recent comments made by customers with the purpose to build trust with the client that is about to make a purchase.

To proceed we need to pick a shipping method by adding our postcode.

After we do that we are presented with the delivery options we have.

After we have selected our delivery place, we can see the payment options.

Under that, we can tick a box that will subscribe to their newsletter.

In the end, we see the total amount we need to pay with a clear and large number followed by the "Pay" button.

Conclusion

I find this website very easy to use and navigate and I like the choices they offer. The shopping process is easy and detailed, and the delivery is very fast. They offer different discount codes throughout the year, which is also very appealing to the customer. I find the comments on the products very helpful and genuine and that helps with my trust in the company.
