Now that you have built and tested your website, I would like you to market it. Let’s say that your budget is NOK 10 000 (or 1800 $ US). Please do the following:
Do some research on what advertising costs. You could for instance contact your local newspaper, print shop and other websites.
After doing some research on my local newspaper, I found out that is possible to either have an included commercial in different sizes directly in to the newspaper or have separately printed out flyers that can be put inside and sold together with the newspaper. I would probably invest in making separate flyers that can be included, because I believe that will draw more attention and make it harder for people to miss.
Make a detailed list of how you would market your website. Remember to keep your budget in mind.
Before starting on any kind of advertisement I will make sure the website and the SEO are optimized for use online.
Since social media is usually the most effective and cost efficient way to advertise a website now-days, I will most likely begin with making a Facebook page for the website and possibly an Instagram account.
Then I would invest in printing out posters that can be hanged up around and flyers that could be handed to people in stores and hotels, as well as put in the local newspaper.
What if you had double the budget? Come up with a second marketing strategy, this time with NOK 20 000 at your disposal. (3600 $ US)
If I had double the budget I would put advertisement posters in other towns around the country and in airports, train and boat stations in hope to attract more people in to checking out the website and hopefully travel to the city.
Come up with a viral idea. It doesn't have to be a video; it can be guys dancing at the airport in gorilla suits. You can use ANYTHING that is at your disposal. Be creative!
If my budget allows it I would organize a promotional event in the city, with music, food, drinks and different games for kids. People form all around the country can gather, have fun and learn new information about the place they are at.
