Copy the exact content from a homepage of a website of your choice. Now redesign this homepage in three different ways. Each design should evoke a different emotional response from viewers.
You can choose what you would like these emotional responses to be. Please upload this activity to your WordPress blog along with a short paragraph where you explain the look and intent of each of the three designs.
I have to admit - I had a lot of fun with this task and I'm very happy with my results.
I chose to remake Komplett's website for this task. Although the original website is a bit overcrowded and outdated for my taste, it's definitely not the worst I've seen.
Original page:
First thing I noticed is the boring and simple website layout and navigation bar in the header. And even though it contains a button that shows "all products", there was a second bar that showed exactly the same a bit lower on the page. Another thing that bothered me was all the random blocks and buttons placed all over the page. There is also a bit too many blocks with delivery discounts and commercials on different products presented with slideshows on the page.
Design 1 (friendly and exciting)
For my first design I wanted to make a friendly and exciting layout that concentrates on only one topic on the front page. I remade the navigation bar and the shopping icons completely. I used the colors from the logo (yellow and dark blue) for my color palette.
I used a stock photo with high resolution since the original website had only small images.
The gaming topic was inspired by an article from the site.
Design 2 (classy and minimalist)
Inspired by my first design I wanted to create a even cleaner version that had a minimal and classy look. Using a background stock image and the same color palette I created a few shapes for a classy look on the side. The rest of the page contains only logo, search bar, a button for the menu and the shopping icons.
Design 3 (fun and informational grid)
For my last design I wanted to make something that is close to the original, but with a modern twist. I fit the logo, search bar, navigation and a basket icon in the header and used the free space for products and different deals in a grid style layout. I left some of the blocks without a border and some with a border matching the rest of the layout for a fun effect.
Most of the products and deals are extracted from the website and it gives the viewer the opportunity to see as much information on the screen as possible while still having a logical structure.
